Norton Ghost 14 disappeared after update 2

I have an issue very similar to the one described in this post:

I am 90% sure this is related to a Quicken update update I did from 2009 to 2012.  There were a number of odd things that happened during the update including confusing my Outlook (it seemed to be confused which user I was), and several "install" events that were launched after reboot.  Everything seemed to fix itself after rebooting again except that sadly, after awhile, I noticed Norton Ghost icon was missing from the tray.  I say sadly because I really do not want to go back to my pre-upgrade restore.

System is Vista Ultimate 64 bit, service pack 2.  8GB ram, Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.83 GHz.

I am running Norton Internet Security 18.7.1.3

Symptoms are very much like the referenced post.

  • c:\Program Files (x86)\ Norton Ghost contains one directory, Agent and one file, Agent.bat
  • the Agent directory contains one file VProSvc.exe

I've not done that much with the system since noticing the issue.  I have not tried to reinstall Ghost or mess with the registry.

It looks to me like Norton updater was somehow triggered but failed to complete?

Not that keen on running Norton removal tool as I would need to reinstall Internet Security which is stable.  Will do it if I needed.
