Norton Ghost 14 locks up computer when trying to run backup

I bought North Ghost 14 because I wanted a better backup than the built in windows backup, but so far I'm regretting my decision.

I've had the software for a few weeks now and and have not successfully backed up once.

Whenever I tell it to run a backup it runs for hours, which I expected, but then it freezes the entire computer. I can still move the mouse but that's it. [ctr]+[alt]+[del] doesn't work, no other key combinations work, and I can't click on anything.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit with 4GB RAM.

I'm running an AlienWare laptop that uses 2 HDs configured as RAID 0 for a total of 365GB of which aprox 99GB are free. I believe that the HDs are SATA and that it is using a RAID controller built into the laptop.

I am backing up to a Buffalo Terrastation across my home network using my wireless card. I have 653GB free on my terrastation.

I originally tried backing up with the default settings. I did switch Ghost from creating one huge backup file to breaking the backup into multiple 2GB files but that didn't seem to help.

It doesn't seem to always stop in the same place. Yesterday it ran for all day and locked up sometime this morning. Today it only ran a few hours before locking up.

I'm trying to get help from the online chat but I've been in the queue for about an hour so far.
