I have a restore problem with Ghost 14.
The C drive died on my computer - I am running Ghost 14 and had both the drive and files backed up to a second Hard drive (H:) (Sata)
Computer is a Dell Dimension 4600, Windows XP3. The dead drive was Maxtor 120 Gig SATA.
I purchased a new Seagate 500G SATA, installed it (no format or partition) and ran the Ghost Recovery Boot disk.
I choose recover computer, selected the file for the C drive. The wizard immediately moves me to the "finished " page without giving me the chance to select any options.
Why would it skip the options such as retore MBR for a new drive? I ran it anyway.
Ghost restored the drive, and I rebooted ... to a blinking cursor. Nothing would boot. Turns out the second drive H is now showing as my primary drive (0) and it has no O/S on it, and the New restored drive is drive (1) but still shows as C and has XP on it.
Ghost didn't format the entire drive - only enough to match the retore (112Gig)
I've used the XP disk to boot and repair the MBR on the C drive. This hasn't changed it to the primary but at least I get a boot option and can choose drive C which runs XP.
I tried reading the new C drive with Partition Magic and it shows up as BAD. There appeaars to be a partition error. XP sees the C: as 112 Gig and the rest of the space as unallocated.
I have already tried reformatting the drive and reloading the restore file. Still couldn't choose options. I have verified the restore file is good (ghost boot disk).
Any recommendation as to what to do next? and how do I get back to the C drive as the primary?
Thx.
