Have used Norton Ghost for many years but now having major problem...
Backups stopped working over a week ago. When my backup tries to run, it just hangs for hours at 1% done. I finally took a look in the system application log and found the following:
Error EC8F042E: Cannot register JANDERSON with service principal name of VProRecovery Norton Ghost Agent 15.0. Error EBAB03F1: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Details: Source: Norton Ghost
I have no idea what changed. I've just been doing regular updates from Microsoft.
System: ThinkPad T410, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
Where were the backups going to? Over a network?
Backups are going to an external hard drive (USB). I can open and explore the files and folders on the drive just fine.
A little more information here... This computer is part of a domain at my place of work. Windows caches the login credentials, which allows me to shutdown when I leave work, go home and startup and login under my domain account when not connected to the work network.
I just got to work, and out of curiosity, I examined the event log. The Norton Ghost service started with no error message. Is this a domain login issue? When I startup my system at home, is Norton Ghost trying to access the domain controller? Again, up until last week, this all worked fine.
Do you happen to remember around when the error started to occur? Had you recently received a Windows Update? Something domain related could be a patch Tuesday after effect.
