I just noticed that the Ghost wasn't performing backups (in fact, it appears the last backup set was performed in May).
Also noticed icon wasn't on desktop. Used Start>Programs>Norton Ghost, but it seemed not to find any files. Looked for Program Files/Norton Ghost - didn't find it!
I KNOW I didn't uninstall or delete files, so I tried to repair/install/uninstall program, first from Control Panel, then directly from CD.
Common error received:
Error 1720. There is a problem with this install package. A script required for this install could not be found. Current action UninstallGenericMountDriver. B24ECCE6_686C_4EE4...
I cannot get rid of it on system, but it doesn't appear to be there anyway!
Any suggestions?
Dick,
Thanks for the suggestions. Used Power Eraser, had nothing in system.
Tried the download copy, same problem as previously trying to install.
No, never actually had to restore (thankfully!).
I noticed that the errors all seemed to be caused by calls to functions that were obviously not loaded because the underlying files weren't being loaded. For whatever reason the program files disappeared, it apparently wasn't due to a regular deinstall. Considering that, I manually went through the registry and deleted all references to Norton Ghost. Was then able to reinstall the program. Only glitch then was that the program wouldn't recognize the prior backup sets. Didn't consider this a major issue, being as old as they were, so deleted them and allowed new install to create an initial disk image backup. Seems fine now.
Don't know why program was erased.
Thanks for all of your help.
George
Try using the 'Fix It' located here, then attempt to reinstall. Let's go from there:
