Norton Ghost breaks Windows Boot Manager on HP Compaq Pro 6300

I've been using various versions of Ghost since it used to run from a floppy and have never experienced anything like this.  My new computer is a HP Compaq Pro 6300 desktop and for some reason it will not boot into the Symantec Recovery Environment.  Every time I put the Ghost 15 disc or Ghost 15 Recovery disc into the tray, it completely destroys the Boot files.  The error message refers to a cable & also reports a Non-System disc.  I've created new Ghost 15 discs on this computer, but it doesn't help.  Also the error message just keeps appearing even when there is no disc in the tray.

Unfortunately I can't attach screen dumps as the computer is completely unbootable.  But I'm running Win7 Pro 64-bit.  The computer came with 4 primary partitions pre-installed:

'System' - Active, Primary,100Mb, contains all the Boot files etc.

'C' - Primary, OS

'E' - Primary, 6/7Gb, Recovery partition

'HP_TOOLS' - Primary, 100Mb, HP Diagnostic Tools

Windows System Repair is unable to fix the problem.  The only thing that works is to completely recover the computer to factory defaults.  HP decided it was a faulty hard drive and replaced it, but the same thing happened again the first time I attempted to restore from a backup.

This is the first time I've had a computer where 'C' is not Active and the boot files are on a separate partition.  Could  this be causing the problem?  My backups include both System and C partitions, but this is irrelevant as I can't even get into the Recovery Environment.

I'll be grateful for any suggestions, please.
