Norton Ghost under WinXP doesn't seem to close when finished.

I'm running Norton Ghost 10.0 on a 3.0 GHz dual-processor, 2.0 Gbyte RAM, WinXP SR3 machine.  Ghost is schedule to run a backup of my 120 Gbyte C:\ drive each Sunday evenings at 6:PM.    Typically, that drive has ~60 GByte of content.   Nearly always, no one uses that machine until 11:00 PM that night; five hours later.  At that time, after check of e-mail, I request that Windows shut down.  If I forget to come back to the machine a short time latter, I'll find the machine still running in the morning with this Question on the screen, "Do you want to terminate Ghost backup," or something like that. Besides needlessly burning electricity all night, the halting of the shut down procedure somehow mangles the automatic power down procedures that are commanded after periods of non-operation such that it is necessary to completely turn off the machine to get it to operate correctly.

COULD GHOST BE STILL WORKING on completing a recovery point five hours later? I suspect not.

Is the problem that the Ghost application doesn't close after completing a back up, and if so, do the newer versions of Ghost solve that problem?
