Norton icon in system tray

In the past week the behavior of Norton icon in the sytem tray has changed; after I shut down my computer and start up after some time I find  the Norton icon in Past Items and it takes a few minutes until the icon appears again in the notification area, sometimes with a red sign on it, which I interpret as Auto-Protect being off; I cannot open the main product interface until the blue OK sign comes back on. Until last week the Norton icon used to appear immediately in the system tray after I log on. I would appreciate anyone offering a comment on why the Norton icon delays in appearing in the system tray and why with a red sign at the very first moment, which lasts 15 to 20 seconds until it turns blue.

I removed Norton 360 by Norton Removal Tool and reinstalled it from my account just today but the behavior didn't change.

I understated the load time: in my last log on it took Norton two and a half mintues to load and for the Norton icon to appear in the notification area and it took 15 seconds for the red warning to turn green (which I said blue mistakenly above)

As a test (if you like) you can turn off the Enable Boot Time Protection in the Real Time Protection settings.  This will allow the system to boot faster and then load the Norton interface (protection still scans everything in memory when Norton is loaded).  Have you run a defrag on your system disk lately (this is also called Insight Optimizer)?

Hi,

There is a setting in N360 which will allow Norton start earlier.  You can find it by opening N360 > Settings > Antivirus > change the Boot Time Protection to Aggressive > Apply.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks.

Just to add a bit to what Krusty13 said - see this thread for more discussion.

An update has been released that should resolve this issue.

Mine was doing the same thing and I have found when Norton ugrades, it changes the "Display Icons" to "Hide when inactive" Display/properties/customize, and change Norton icon to "Always show" With Hide when inactive set, it will display when Norton is doing something or hide when it is not

Yes, it resolved the issue. I read that a patch was also released, but for NIS; I am not sure if it applies to Norton 360 as well. Anyway, thank you for the suggestion.
