Norton Intelligent Updater for Internet Security 2012 fails to install

Norton Intelligent Updater for Norton Internet Security 2012 fails to install on my computer after I download it from: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95 20120623-009-v5i32.exe Supports the following versions of Symantec antivirus software: Norton Internet Security 2012 for Windows XP/Vista/7 and save it to my USB Drive, at the library to install on my notebook PC with 64 bit Windows 7 at home. (I don’t click on FTP nor MD5 or all, in orange text.) When I used Norton security software products in previous years before June 2011, I was able to open and install the daily “Norton Intelligent Updates” from a USB Drive on to my notebook PC without connecting to the internet, which isn’t broadband anyway. (Whether it was for Norton Internet Security 2010 or 2011, or Norton 360) without any problems. Yet I’ve found after using Norton Internet Security (2012) which I only started using upon installation earlier this month, (following the expiry of my previous internet security software made by a different manufacturer), that for some unknown reason to me, the darn update won’t install properly. A dialog box with the following message/text appears, after trying to open and install it: Intelligent Updater sesssion complete. All updates failed to install on the machine. Fore more details about the processing, please check the log file “Log.IntelligentUpdater.txt” created in the user’s temporary directory. I don’t even know where that is to be found on my computer.

Hello softwear-user

Also please make sure your product is fully installed as there are usually several reboots necessary to fully install the product. Also please make sure the computer time is correct.

The last internet security software installed before Norton I.S. on my computer earlier this month,

was Kaspersky I.S. 2011.

In the programs and features control panel, only Norton I.S. Dated 2012 appears as the sole security program on the list of programs installed.

I un-installed Kaspersky Internet Security after it expired in early June.

On the main user panel/interface - whatever it's called for Norton I.S. 2012,

it shows subscription status: 354 days remaining,

and live update - last update: 321 days ago.

Due to my slow dial up connection, I can't update the virus defintions in full.

This evening using live update, I've only been able to download 34.263 MB of 87.39 MB after a few hours connected.

The time on the computer clock is correct and is automatically set to schronise with: time.windows.com

Where do I find:

C:/Users/your username/AppData/Local/Temp

on my computer?

(On Windows 7) I tried,

start menu > computer > local disk (C:) > users > my name > which just shows folders for:

contacts, desktop, downloads, favourites, links, my documents, my music, my pictures, my videos, saved games, searches.

But no application data nor temporary files.

Hello software-user

There may still be some parts of Kaspersky IS 2011 left over inside your computer which wouldn't show up under Programs and Features. We recommend the use of the removal tool also to get a clean install. If there are left overs inside, it may cause internal conflicts.

The error with the updates not being current may be due to the program not fully being installed since there are parts that need to be installed even with the latest version given out in the form. Do you have the program set up to receive the smart definitions only? The intelligent updater isn't going to work correctly if the program isn't installed completely.

Try c:/Windows/temp

You probably need to show hidden files:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Show-hidden-files

I think your using the wrong one.

If your running windows 7 64bit, you want the file that ends with i64.exe, not the one you posted with i32.exe

edit- Scroll down to the second to last one, it says:
