Since I installed Norton trial for 60 days, downloading to my GPS from Geocaching is so slow. It takes 5 minutes to detect my GPs and 5 minutes to download a geocach. On my 8 year old Dell using AVG it only took seconds. What is wrong? If I cannot correct this i am getting rid of Norton. I had problems years ago with Norton and swore I would never use it again. Friends insisted it had changed. Well, help me or i am done with Norton. I cannot contact Norton Support DEJVU from the 90's. Has Norton changed? Make me a believer????
My service Provider is Charter HSI through the cable. I have the Norton Trial Antivirus. My computer is new. No other security program has been loaded, unfortunately. I should have stayed with AVG. No problems. Now I have to use my old laptop to download geocaches. What a bummer. I guess I will uninstall Norton as I don't have any other options. I am going to call Garmin since I cannot reach Symantec. They don't want to help. Just like the old days. Symantec Tech called me a newbie. I have been using computers for over 20 years. I used to manage a computer network. LOL

This problem started immediately. Just after I accepted the Norton offer of free service for 60 days.
Are you sure your using Norton Antivirus and not Norton internet security?
Norton anti-virus doesn't have a firewall, so I don't see how it could be causing a problem.
I actually have NAV 2011 installed on this computer and I have Garmin GPS. I don't use geocache but I use the GPS for navigation and I never had a problem using mapsource to transfer data back and forth from the computer to the GPS and it has no trouble identifying the device when I plug it in.

Hi jlwebster,
As Dave said NAV does not have a firewall so it seems highly unlikely that NAV is the source of the problem. Also you didn't say earlier. What is the version of NAV you have from Help & Support > About? Also again, what OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?
Have you tried disabling Auto-protect for a brief period to see if this has any effect?
If you briefly uninstall NAV do you still see the problem?
Best wishes.
