Norton Internet Security 2004 - Renewal Date Not Installed problem

Problem started = Around July 20, 2009

Subscription Expiration Date = November 4, 2009

Around July 20, 2009 of this year I noticed my subscription seemed to have stopped working. And when I tried Live Update that 4 items in the list of items that it checks for updates for me were no longer being updated. And as the title to the topic says when I checked the Renewal Status it said Not Installed even thou on the right side it says my subscription is current.

After the usual virus and spyware checks and scandisk and defragging nothing fixed it. So I figured something must have been corrupted or screwed up. So on the Norton help site I found this,

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/custserv.nsf/docid/2006032017044446?Open&docid=2004020913084846&nsf=custserv.nsf&view=docid

Is this the right answer I think it is, but it says to use some Norton Removal Tool instead of Add and Remove Programs. Does the Norton one remove more then then just removing it from the Control Panel?

I mean I can't update my virus definitions atm so I'm kind of cautious of downloading anything as well as past experiences with Dell when after I downloaded a small program so the tech guy could help diagnosis my computers problem he didn't give me any word of how to then uninstall the program I had to install after he was done.

How long will NIS 2004 be supported as well? Also I know some people might say I should upgrade I know but I like the ad-blocker in 2004 and I won't upgrade until I know the Norton product I upgrade tool still has Ad-Blocker in it. It's been a great product so that's why I don't want to change to another company either.
