Norton Internet Security 2009

I still have a few months left of N.I.S. 2008; how do I Upgarde to N.I.S. 2009 using the remaining days that N.I.S. 2008 has left before I actually Buy this in the coming months?

Is the New N.I.S. always Released at this time of year, e.g. about July 15?

Norton Internet Security 2009 is still in Beta; please direct all questions regading the Public Beta to the appropriate Public Beta Board. Thank you.

When the infected file is in archive, it cannot be excuted, thats why, there is no need to scan archives in real-time. This will only slow down the computer. This is one of the reasons I like Norton products - they ensure optimal performance in real time, previous versions too. They slowed down computer's startup and shutdown, they needed more system resources, but didn't affect performance while moving files, opening large archives, running programs. And other products like Kaspersky, were not able to ensure optimal performance during normal work.

This is just my opinion :)

As I see yogesh's solution is for Vista, in Windows XP do this way:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Click the Advanced tab.

Click Environment variables.

Click one the following options, for either a user or a system variable:

  • Click New to add a new variable name and value.
  • Click an existing variable, and then click Edit to change its name or value.
  • Click an existing variable, and then click Delete to remove it.

    hi thanks for the reply.

It only says it when i open aol programme before i sign on to aol

    Robert999,

The issue may be with AOL which has not been updated to recognize the Norton 2009 program installled in your computer. You can ignore the message from AOL program, the only thing you need to concern is the alerts from the Norton 2009 program Interface. As long as Norton 2009 program interface shows GREEN status and all components are working, you are completely protected.

I do have the green tick in the bottom right hand corner

You can go ahead and purchase NIS 2009. Install it and activate the product.

Once the product is activated using the valid key,  you can update to the latest version for FREE. To do this, simply go to http://updatecenter.norton.com and select Update Me Now.

    HI Thalir,

One can do this but NIS 2011 will accept the product key from the NIS 2009 CD so it saves a step of having to instlall NIS 2009 first. :smileywink:

    Best wishes.

    Allen

    Yes AllenM. I agree.

But I just added this extra step to ensure the product key that is purchased is valid. Incase of failure (if any) user should not start thinking that it is because of using NIS 2009 key in NIS 2011.

I'm not sure that I would want to risk an upgrade problem over-installing on the 16.0.0.136 version.  I would go with AllenM's route, as well.

btw - I'm replacing Norton 360. Presumably I need to uninstall that before installing NIS ? Thanks
