# Problem - Norton Live Updater "Unable to connect to Norton Live Update Server"

# Internet Connection - Cable & WiMAX

I tried to to fix this problem by reinstalling the software with a latest installer but I failed. I am using NIS 2010 for more than 2 months and never had any problem like this. I removed the registry keys and also used Norton Removal Tool but this didn't help. I took the help of Norton Support but they also couldn't help me here. I tried to install NIS 2010 trial version on a different machine and also tried to update it with a different internet connection and asusual I also failed here to fix this. Right now I downloaded the Offline Intelligent Virus Definiton Updater and updated my software. I completely scanned my computer with NIS 2010 and Malwarebytes Antimalware and found nothing. I can browse Symantec's sites without any problem. So, right now I am fed up with it. Is there anyone to help me out from this terrible problem.

I'm sure you will get some help on this here so please hang on for a while. It's not something I have any expertise in but I now others here do.

Only one further question: Is your Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit?

Oh yes -- how do you connect to the internet? dial up, cable, DSL .....

I am not saying you dont have an issue, but you tried a different machine with a different internet connection and received same error. So even if this is rhetorical question, why cant it be simply that the Server is unavailable?

Hi tripplethreat

Do you connect to the net using a proxy? If you do, then you have to put in the proxy information also. You can also check your network connections and see if that is set up ok and you should be able to see there if you do use a proxy server.

I’ve given the information you have asked for. Please, check my first message as I have edited it for your convenience.

I’ve never used a proxy before but NIS 2010 got its updates with ease and recently I modified nothing in my internet connection. This problem arised last Thursday and I am stuck at this unsolved matter very badly.

Hi tripple

Have you tried restarting your modem and router if you are using one and your computer.? You could also empty your temp files, cookies and internet history.

What happens when you click “more info” and what does the Norton log say?

I cleaned my temp files and also restarted my PC and Router but nothing good had happened. I think there isn’t any problem from my side, its Norton’s Live Update Server that is not working somehow. I already passed 5 days with this and still no solution, not to mention but Symantec/Norton don’t listen to its users problem.

After I click more info it shows me a window with some steps to resolve this issue, they recommended me to use the AutoFix tool and it didn't work either. Later it shows the error code 8921,253.

I guess there is no solution to this, thanks to those atleast who tried to help and bye bye Norton/Symantec, they never changed.

Hi tripplethreat

I know that there has been a problem with everyone getting antivirus updates on a routine basis like we have been getting. This started on Jan. 1,2010. Some days it was working fine and other days we didn't get any antivirus updates, sometimes only 1 for the day when there should be 3. I have noticed though that the pulse updates have been coming thru like they should be. I know that Symantec uses lots of servers around the world and several have complained about the lack or sporadic disbursements of the antivirus updates. I for one have been able to connect to the live update server, there just hasn't been updates like there should be.

You mentioned you have a router, could there have been some change that you are unaware of with the firewall in your router.? Have you tried connecting directly without the router and see if you can connect to the live update server ?

Please try the suggestion from flotop. That is the first thing we can try. Check whether you have any other Antivirus or firewall programs installed. If yes, please disable them and run LiveUpdate.
