The download insight notification does not show up when I download .exes from the web.

which version of IE9 do you use? The 32-bit (Norton toolbar should be shown in this) or the 64-bit (no toolbar)?
IE9 32 bit. Strange thing is that when I reinstalled the program from www.norton.com/nis11 (without updates) the feature worked ok. But when the updates got applied, the feature went out of wack.
Only the "save" feature trigger the update "checkmark" notification. The "run" does not trigger the notification.
Strange thing is if I turn OFF Aero (switch to Windows 7 basic theme) the download insight comes back on.
Forgot to mention I have Win7 Home PRe SP1 X64.

Hmmm... that's weird. Sounds like the problem lies somewhere with the desktop composition features then, rather than with NIS itself.
Apparently not... just tried turning off aero and its not showing again. Can you guys try it and tell me if you are getting Norton to show the insight window.
Yes, both with and without Aero.
Can you please try to install Firefox, and then download a program (*.exe, *.msi) with it?
Does the Download Insight window pop up?
With firefox the file saves with no option for RUNNING. .exe prompts the download insight but not .msi's.

Yeah, sure, works fine with both IE and Firefox.
There is no general current bug in NIS that prevents it from displaying Download Insight pop-ups.
But eicar test file prompted an immediate response of analyzing and then removed before clicking run or save. Strange.
RUN is the one giving the problem NOT save
The Eicar test file is detected by Autoprotect when it's downloaded, not insight. It's detected before i downloads completely, even, parts of the file in temp folders. It's a signature detection, not a reputation detection. Different modules at work.
Anybody? Run does not bring up the checkmark window, only save.

It is probably very hard to come up with ideas about what might be causing your problem, since there is no such known bug in NIS, and what is causing some kind of conflict is probably localized on your computer.
I tried out the feature in a PC World computer with NIS11 (latest version 18.6 installed) and I was able to replicate the bug. THe bug wasn't there before I installed the Windows Updates (all of them including .nets) but after updating the PC, the Download Insight window no longer popups on "run" only "save".
Windows 7 Home Premium x64, I think...
Problem resolved with the 2012 version of Norton Internet Security.
