Norton Internet Security 2012 Blocks Go to Assist

I'm working w/ a customer that needs to use go to assist when he needs help and NIS 2012 is blocking the installer. It gives me the Generic: G2AInstaller.exe - Application Error:

the application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000018) Click on ok o terminate the program.

I've tried configuring the smart firewall for every known "Program File" the software uses and still no go. I've uninstalled and reinstalled NIS 2012 to confirm it is the issue and it is. Please help

Here is the SS, I would like to make it known, a norton tech behind my back went on the PC in safemdoe w/ networking. Made a whole bunch of changes and ran winsock, my PC now has no internet. I had a tech come out and after 4hrs labor the issue was resolved w/ the internet. This is terrible.

I'm not out $500 have NO AV, and I can't run my business at the moment because the support company I use needs G2A to connect and they refuse to use any other software because they record remote sessions.

Hi kvalentine,

That appears to be a Windows system error, so Norton may have no involvement at all.  I am also a bit confused because you have also posted about having Norton 360 and a remote support issue.  Can you clarify?

How is it possible for a Norton Tech to connect to your PC without your knowledge. If you allowed a remote session, it is hardly behind your back.

What was the tech trying to do?

1. Issue is 100% Norton. When Nortons not installed program opens fine, as soon as Norton is installed it gives that error. I've checked the system logs and nothing shows up that would point towards windows.

2. Norton Remoted onto my system to troubleshoot *with my knowledge* but I obviously wasn't watching what they were doing because I was working and 4 hours later I get a call saying they can't connect, and what do you know, neither can I. The tech said he ran winsock and made some changes to the norton firewall but obviously was clueless because he ended up screwing w/ my network and did not want to take any accountability.

SOJ is correct in that the error message you posted is a Windows message, not Norton. What is causing it is what we need to determine. Just because Norton seems to be the cause, it is not necessarily the case.

Have you checked with G2A support to see if they have any suggestions or experience with this issue?

As the Windows installation may have been changed, you should run system file checker. Open a command prompt with admin privilige. Then type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes. Let us know if there are any errors found.

I'm having the same problem (application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000018)) when trying to install GoToAssist used by Dell tech support.  I paid $239 for a year of support.  After reformatting the XP Media Edition computer, it worked OK.  Now that NIS 20 has been reinstalled, the problem surfaced.  I tried disabling all non-Microsoft programs and rebooting to see if GoToAssist could be installed but that didn't help.  However, I did notice that in-spite-of unchecking the NIS program, it restarted anyway.

Other attempts included turning off Norton firewall and anti-virus, and turning off all real-time protection settings.
