I have been running Norton Internet Security for years on my Dell PC running Windows XP Professional with service pack 3. A few weeks ago a did an update to Norton Internet Security 2012. My desktop screen became non-responsive to mouse clicks. I re-booted and started getting messages "error 8506, 422" I deleted Norton and my computer operation returned to normal. I re-installed Norton from the disk and immediately got a blue screen message. I re-started my computer in Safe Mode and ran a full Norton scan on my computer, thinking I had some malware on my computer. Instead, the full scan in Safe Mode only found four tracking cookies. I found an article written by Norton staff, Dave Coleman, dated July 12, 2012 about disabling Sonar, running Live Update, then re-enabling Sonar. Well, I was able to disable Sonar (I think) but when re-starting my computer, the blue screen keeps popping up. Right now I am sending this message from another computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm not sure where you got your disk but the safest place to get a current copy of NIS is here;
I'd recommend using the Norton Removal Tool before doing the download so that you are sure that there's nothing Norton corrupting your install.
If there's malware in the mix try a scan with Malwarebytes free scanner
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
It's Norton compatible and makes a great second opinion scan
