Just purchased two HP Desktop computers (WIN 7) with Norton Internet Security (60 trial) preinstall. One of those two computers belongs to the Mrs. and the other being mine. Right now, we have 42 days remaining before renewel. Did the updates / downloads for both, which brought them to: Version: 19.7.1.5. Norton Internet Security 2012.
I have a two part question and the following are:
Can I install (purchased) Norton Internet Security 2012 Retail 1 User License 3 Activations w/ AntiVirus on both and if so,
could it be explained/procedures as how to do this?

<< Norton Internet Security 2012 Retail 1 User License 3 Activations >>
Although it may be labeled or advertised as that, in fact it is a so-called 3 PC version and it can be one user on each of up to 3 PCs or it can be up to 3 users on 3 PCs. The PCs do not have to be in the same location or owned by the same person (subject to below).
<< NOTE: We both have separate Norton accounts. >>
Do you need/want to keep it this way? If they are set up with different email addresses and passwords then you cannot split a 3 PC version between the two; the second attempt to activate will throw up "already in use".
The only way you can use one copy of Norton is to have one account.
But if you have two accounts only because of activating the trial installations on the new PCs and you don't mind having one MyNortonAccount (which both can access if you share the password and log in using the same email address) then you will be fine with the purchase of one copy of a 3 PC copy.
We have some feedback from users that the Norton OnLine Support Team will add that trial time onto your purchased 366 days or you can wait until a couple of days before the trial expires and then activate the purchased copy. For this or to go from two individual Norton accounts, if you wanted to, we can give you a link to Support via CHAT which is said to work well.
I am not absolutely sure that you can activate a trial copy with a purchased key or if you need to install the purchased copy; if the trial copy is a 1 PC version as one would expect then the 3 PC version key may not be enough to convert it to a 3 PC version.
I know this is the case with Norton 360 where you cannot go from Standard to Premier just by using the right key and you do there have to reinstall.
Hang on for some confirmation on this.
BTW Have you checked out the cost at HP for converting your trial installation into a paid one year and a 2 year subscription? Last time I looked the cost was good compared with buying a retail package as you ask about.
A retail key works fine on a preinstalled version. Once the preinstalled version has been started the first time, it becomes the same as a retail version.
On the bottom of the main screen right next to where it says how many days are left click the link that says renew or activate.
It will bring up this screen:
If I recall correctly, I took this screenshot from a HP pre-installed version.
Click the link that says "I have a key or code to enter"
Then enter the key code and it will activate.
As the other Dave stated, you can only have one Norton account per key code. It's the first activation of a new key that determines what account to associate the key with. If you do the first activation it will go into your account, if your wife does it then it will go into hers. You need to decide that first because it can't be changed after the first activation.
The second activation on that key will not require signing into the norton account. The second user really doesn't need access to the Norton account at all as long as the first user is willing to sign into it should the second user ever need to reinstall or redownload the product.
At my house, I always put the keys into my account because if my wife ever has any problems she's going to have me do it anyway.
Thanking you Hugh and DaveH for your valued input and if I may:
@DaveH...
The image you presented here is what I see on my and the Mrs when we click on Renew.
If I read you correct, am I to go into her account > profile and change her name to mine and likewise, change her email to mine, so that it will show myself having two (both) accounts? Also, would this include changing the billing information on hers to read mine?

PMJI on this but with two accounts like that, if there is anything you need to keep then I have seen feedback from users that Norotn OnLine Support via the CHAT route as below can combine them.
But if both accounts only have the trial NIS and you can wait on until the trial period ends then you can just use your MyNortonAccount to activate the purchased copy and when you use that key on your wife's PC it should begin by asking to log inot "your" MyNortonAccount and she (you in her place?) would log into yours using your email address and password and the purchased key.
If you know what you want to achieve they should be able to help you achieve it in the most effective way and as I said if you contact them now you can ask them if they can add the trial days to the purchased days (but I doubt they'll give you 60 + 60 <g>)
Since your the one posting here and will be the one activating the products, it seems like your wife put you in charge here. ;)
When your trial gets near 0 days left, just activate the one on your system first. Then the key will be tied to your Norton account.
Then you can use the same key to activate your wifes system.
From then on, your account will be the main one for your household, every year you can renew the product and your wife won't have to deal with it at all.
Again thanks much for the assistance and I have this thread bookmarked, so that when the end nears for the trial version, will keep you both informed on how everything went.
