Hi all,
what are your experiences with Windows XP SP3 rc2 and Norton Internet Security 2008.
First I did a clean install of Windows XP SP2 and download the SP3 rc2 via Windows Update. All went fine.
I installed Norton IS 2008 without any failure. All worked like a charme (including all the standard applications like Adobe Reader, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox --- no problems).
After this I uninstalled Service Pack 3 RC2 for testing purposes. After a reboot NIS 2008 started a installation routine and prompt me for the ccCommon.msi file. - I found it after unpacking the download package ( beta tester know it from the NFR) and I think the others will find it without any problems on the NIS 2008 CD.- I point the installer to the msi-package , installation went fine and all seemed to be fine.
But now, everytime I start my PC a NIS2008 Popup tell me that I have shut down the AntiVirus application but if I open the ControlCenter everything is well.
Do you experience such problems? Have you tried to test SP3 rc2 with Norton Products? What happened?
I know SP3 is a RC and not a RTM Product. But in germany the people said "Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm" (english: the early bird gets the worm)

Hi s4u,
you're right but NIS 2008 works well with the SP3 rc2 for me. Only unintalling the SP3 rc2 caused the problem I had. I think there are a lot of beta-tester who test the Windows beta as well. Pure curiosity......

Correct as SP3 is still in beta testing and is not complete, it will have glitches. Uninstalling any service pack, windows will warn you that certain application may not function correctly. Norton's was tested on SP2, I am sure there will be adjustments made for the future service packs to be released.

i have not seen the issue you are seeing, but we can try to reproduce it in house
Hi Lars-
I just tried to run your scenario using SP 3 RC and I did not see any issues. If you are still coming across them, please post here.
Thanks
InAfter installing the SP# via Windows Update, my device manager and network connections were blank. After searching microsoft’ forums, I found there to be an error with symantc products and had to delete a lot of registry keys o fix the problem.
Hi Jslynch,
It seems that you have your own thread already: http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=901
I referred Jslynch's thread here since his issue doesn't seem to be related to the one discussed here. Unfortunately his thread is now closed.
Well, just installed SP3 and found no problem on my computer.
Have you checked device manager to make sure it’s not blank? there are numerous people encountering this error while running Norton.
Can anyone answer this,,,, is xp sp3 final from the windows update site,,, or is it still just another beta version,,,,
it seems to have alot of chater,,,, with lots of user problems,,, thanks,,, Cj
It's as final as anything. As soon as SP2 was posted, new updates were coming along labeled SP3 if you checked them in Add/Remove Programs.
It's certainly not a Beta although the cynical would say that Microsoft has a reputations for issuing versions that should still be worked upon <s> But that's the reality of the battle everywhere between technicians and marketing ....
Moved post to a thread of its own for better exposure.
and what do you know?
Windows is still beta.
So Norton is most likely not working that well with it
