Norton Internet Security Blocking Chrome Updates

I hope that this helps and someone corrects possible bugs in either Chrome or Internet Security.

I had noticed that Google Chrome was not updated to the latest version that also includes updates to Adobe Flash and Reader.  A note on the 'About Chrome' page indicated that an update is in progress and will be complete on a re-launch of the browser.  That never happened.

The update file, new_chrome.exe (the new updated version), is located in the same file folder as chrome.exe (the old version).  I attempted to rename the files, changing chrome.exe to chrome.exe.old and new_chrome.exe to chrome.exe.  However, I was continuously blocked in renaming the chrome.exe file by the Win8 operating system that popped up the warning message stating that chrome.exe was opened by Norton Internet Security.  At the time, Chrome was closed and was not listed by the Task Manager.  There were no Norton extensions installed in Chrome; the Norton Toolbar was not installed in Chrome.  I had no problem accessing the Internet using Chrome, Firefox or IE.

I disabled the Firewall & Auto Protect functions of Norton Internet Security and restarted the computer.  I was then able to change the file names and use the latest version of Chrome.  The restart was required as I was not able to change the file name by simply disabling the Firewall & Auto Protect functions.

Details: Win8, Updating Chrome from Version 37.0.2062.103 m (64-bit) to Version 37.0.2062.120 m (64-bit).  The Norton website tells me that it is up to date. I've had this configuration of both Norton Internet Security and Google Chrome installed on this computer for over 18 months and have not experienced this problem before.
