Norton Internet Security not allowing my email account to load

I installed NIS over the weekend.  I can access the internet, including Charter.net, but cannot open my email account through charter.  It's a charter email address.  I'm using internet explorer 8 for my browser.  Can someone help me with this?  I've tried Charter, but they couldn't solve it.  They told me to try Norton, so here I am!  I can put in my email address, password, and zip code, but the page won't load the actual emails.

I tried all those things, then tried them again with the Charter agent.  No luck.  I also can't ope the email account usuing Google Chrome.  I had no problems before installing Norton Internet Security, so I think it IS a NIS problem.

What security software did you have beforeyou installed NIS? How did you remove it?

I had McAfee Antivirus software that came with my Dell computer.  I uninstalled it by going through the control program, then 'uninstall programs', then selected Mcafee from the list of programs on my computer.

Anti virus programs need to be fully removed using the company's removal tool. If you have not used the removal utility, there can still be remnants of the program left that could conflict with Norton. This could be causing the issue you are seeing.

You can find the information for McAfee's removal tool here   http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

After you run the McAfee removal tool, you should probably remove and reinstall your NIS using the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.

Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.

Does it work if you disable or remove Norton? Also, try disabling the Norton toolbar and check if you can access the emails.

Thanks, Peterweb.  I used the Macafee uninstall tool, then uninstalled and reinstalled Norton with the links you recommended.  I can now load my email account, I am happy to report.  I have one more glitch I am hoping you or someone else on this forum can solve for me:

Before NIS, the Gadgets displayed on the right of my desktop (Windows 7), worked just fine.  Now, they basically don't work.  The clock is just a slider bar -- no clock shape, no real color to it.  The Weather gadget turns to a small white square, etc.  Any suggestions on how to get them working again?  I can live without them.  I couldn't live without my email!

Thanks again for solving my email problem for me!

Glad to hear NIS is back for you.

The gadget question should not be caused by Norton. Although Norton no longer uses a gadget because of an issue where Microsoft has recommended not using gadgets because of a possible security issue.

To try to get your gadgets back, right click on your desktop, and click Refresh. If that does not work, right click on the desktop, and click on gadgets. Close the gadgets that are not displaying correctly. Now drag them from the gadget window to your desktop again.

See if that helps.
