It is easier to help if you keep the information in one thread.

I have been a Norton user for a while and in truth, the way it uses MANDATORY auto-renew is at least murky.

I know it can be deactivated, but no other security software forces you to activate auto-renewal when buying a subscription for example on amazon. Therefore I think it is a "legal scam". Bad for Norton and his policies.

You might want to read my last post a little more carefully, Norton Fighter 25. I received NO emails about upcoming renewals and NO emailed receipt that I'd been charged -- three separate times over three years.

I've read you "received NO emails about upcoming renewals and NO emailed receipt that I'd been charged -- three separate times over three years."
I've no basis to question your comments.
I've posted NortonLifeLock documentation for your consideration.

I'm relieved that Norton is protected legally from complaints by customers who don't carefully read the fine print about their renewal and refund policies. They might want to add some additional fine print that they won't communicate with customers at the time of renewal.

You might want to read my last post a little more carefully, Norton Fighter 25. I received NO emails about upcoming renewals and NO emailed receipt that I'd been charged -- three separate times over three years. But as long as Norton claims in their 9 page licensing agreement that they make such notifications, that's not their problem, right? Until investors start asking questions, that is. But thanks for the cut-and-pastes, Norton Fighter 25. If Norton spent as much time being transparent with the people whose credit cards they're charging as you do defending their deceptive practices, the problem might not exist.

https://www.nortonlifelock.com/us/en/legal/license-services-agreement/

Read the license agreement? Seriously? It is nine pages of legalese. No customer has time to read that. The company knows it. So do you. (And please tell me where in the agreement their automatic renewal policy is explained.) Customer service claims Norton sends emails out to customers when their subscriptions are about to lapse, saying they will be charged soon for auto renewal. Not true. I never received such an email. Customer service reps are apparently fed false information.

Your point that customers can go into "My Subscriptions" to disable automatic renewal is irrelevant under circumstances when customers don't know their account is set up that way to begin with. How nice that you got your N360 Deluxe 5 for $40. Congratulations on not getting ripped off.

Norton's investors might be interested to know the business model is built on a house of cards. Wonder what percentage of customers don't even realize they're customers until 60 days after their credit cards have been charged and they can't get their money back. Time to take a look, investors.

Hello. First off, I do NOT work for Norton, just the everyday user as you are assisting here with customer issues. My take is. Companies aren't perfect that is for sure. What I've found over the years, is most people never get involved in nor take the time for reading a company's EULA when they purchase a product. Tons of good information every users should know is there that in most cases will spell things out in a clear fashion. Can also be saved for later review as well.

You CAN disable the automatic renewal at any time after your purchase of a Norton product. Just sign into your Norton account, look under "My Subscriptions" to manage things there. You can also remove your payment information while logged into your account as well. Norton and other companies will generally auto-renew as far as 30 days in advance of a renewal date, most times an email; will be sent as well. I got my current N360 Deluxe 5 device renewal for $40 straignt from an offering directly from Norton just BEFORE my expiration. Saved a bundle.

An additional heads up!! Your Norton UI or user interface clearly shows your subscription status / remaining days in the lower left corner. Its easy to manage your status there at a moments notice. Ad for customer service, we have complained here in the forums relentlessly about that. The pandemic of course, has made things much worse. Hopefully as we progress toward an end game for COVID that will be the next area Norton takes issue with and correct it.
