"Norton is not responding"

Have generally run Norton 360 on Windows 10 without difficulty. Recently however, very shortly after opening Norton, the application freezes and an error message appears saying "Norton is not responding". This now happens every time and basically renders Norton unusable. The only option is then to close the application. I have: 1. installed & reinstalled; 2. eliminated any other security apps; 3. checked that I am running the latest version of Norton; 4. checked that Microsoft is up to date; 5. had two lengthy on-line sessions with Norton support who performed variations of 1-4 before conceding they had no idea and no solution - the best they were able to offer was a promise to "raise the problem with senior team members". As an aside, these interactions were  time-consuming and deeply frustrating, the more so since the parting  advice was to initiate an entirely  new on-line support session and re-state the problem afresh with a new consultant. No attempt was made to learn from the experience to date which had failed to produce a fix or in any way "ease  the customer experience".  Any clever people out there with any better ideas? I should be very grateful.

Let's see if others here have any insight.

Thank you, peterweb. To answer your queries: 1. No standalone VPN - all integrated in Norton 360; 2. The on-line Norton consultant used the "Advanced Options" method - twice!; 3. I have followed your advice on LiveUpdate and repeatedly restarted. Still no fix, I fear!

In your post labels, you added Norton Secure VPN. Do you have the standalone app installed as well as 360. If so try uninstalling the standalone and test.

When you reinstalled, did you use the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool? If so, did you use the Advanced Options > Remove Only, then reinstall by downloading from your Norton Account?

Then be sure you have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available? Then restart again. Restarting, not shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled.   If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature..
