Norton keeps telling me an error has occurred

I just renewed and went to Norton 360 with no luck.  I have rebooted about five times and done everything that it says I should do, and it still says that an error has occurred.  What do I do next?

Welcome,

What is the error being reported? Most of the Norton program errors have numbers associated with them. Those wouls be most helpful. Also what is your operating system and the version of 360 you are running?

Thanks

The error is 3039, 69638; I am using Internet Explorer 8; Norton 360 v. 5.

Here is the official Norton fix:

Please post back with results.

I have done that about 5 times, except for the NRnR.  I can't seem to find that.  Any help?

I figured out what the NRnR icon is, and am doing that now.

I did what it said to do, and now I get the same error again.  That makes six times.

Sorry to hear you have not had any luck getting this cleared up yet.  I am going to suggest a more vigorous clean install at this point.  I know it is a bit redundant, but the Norton Removal Tool provides a more thorough removal of possible left over digital debris.

If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of NIS.  You use the guidance under Backup and Restore in this link:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?version=current&product=Norton+360&lg=english&ct=united+states&inid=hho_support_buynorton_en_us&pvid=f-n360-cur&docid=v59882571_EndUserProfile_en_us&layout=&partner=&ispid=&sitename=&actstat=activated&substatus=current&ncoap=1

Please note - do not use the Export

Please remove the copy of N 360 you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via Add/Remove or Programs & Features.

Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&do...

Download a fresh copy of N 360 from here:
www.norton.com/n360s_5

Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates available". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates available" and then reboot one last time.

Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.

Please keep us posted.

I finally got it to stay without an error.  But, I was unable to restore my ID Safe Data.  Any suggestions?

Good you got it instaled OK.  Now for your ID Safe Data.  Did you do what I suggested in my previous post?

"If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of NIS.  You use the guidance under Backup and Restore in this link:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?version=current&product=Norto...

Please tell us where the restore failed - ie where in the restore process that was outlined in the above link.  we'll try to walk you through it.

I didn't get far - I got to under Identity Safe and it should be Backup Identity Safe Data, but it is Log in to Identity Safe - there is no browse, but they want a password.  I was very careful to write down my password, but they said it is an incorrect password.  So I stopped.  Now what?

You need to be logged into ID Safe in order for the other options associated with ID Safe to be visible.  So entering the correct password will get you logged-in and the other options shold thenbe present.

On that same setting page, do you show an Identity Safe Setup option?

Did I misread or did you not obtain a backup of the ID Safe data prior to removing the old copy of N 360?
