Usually when an application is installed and a restart is necessary the software tells me - this one didn't.

Glad you got it sorted! But something I believe in, "if in doubt - reboot". I have seen so many times no matter if it is uninstalls, installs, or just changes/upgrades (including Liveupdates in Norton), a reboot works miracles. It's actually embarrassing how many times I have forgot to do that and have found that works!
Hi
I downloaded and installed Norton Management to work with my Updated NIS2012 which seems to have installed but which will not let me register my computer. It goes through the process of adding a device, recognizes my device name, recognizes my account details and then fails saying it was unable to add the computer to my list.
I presume that there is something within NIS2012 that is preventing this from completing but cannot see what it might be as there is no warning or indication of the problem.
Can anyone tell me what might be preventing this process from completing?
Yank,
Are you telling the world our secrets again?

Hi EricG,
Just to clarify, it is not required to reboot after installing Norton Management. This is why it did not inform you to do this after installation.
Obviously in your case something went awry and the reboot resolved it.
Best wishes.

Of course you are correct Allen, but I did say "if in doubt" - like it cannot hurt anything!
Hi,
Before you remove it please check AllenM's post - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Management-A-Value-Add-Feature/m-p/597268/highlight/true#M184653.
Dave.
You should try "Remote Monitoring" if you never have. It won't let you control the other systems in any way but it lets you easily check the statis of the other systems and see when it was last updated and the recent scan results.
You set it up under the "Network Security Map" screen found under "Tasks".
You turn it on, on each system and type in the same passkey or password.
Dave
I kept it mainly becuase I could update my subscription from here at my desk instaed of going to each PC.
Hi
How you're trying to install the Norton M (management)?
Are you downloading it from the manage.norton.com website?
Can you post us a screenshot of that error you're getting?
My reply is not showing up, I hope I do not double post.
I tried to install Norton M from the user interface. The first attempt started the download process followed by the installation process resulting in failure.
Additional attempts go straight to the installation process skipping the download process. The installation might run 2 or 3 seconds before the failure notice.
Subash I hope you are still with this. This morning I attempted to install it again with the same error. I then found the download in Users/Public/Downloads. I double clicked the Norton M file and it installed successfully.
However this presented a new problem. Now Norton Management shows that her version of Norton 360 is a trial version while her Norton User interface shows the correct days remaining. This screen shot is from her computer and you can see on the background window the correct days remaining.
PS She doesn't let me rest until it is right Ha ha!!
This problem is resolved. Norton Management updated her status reflecting the correct days left on the subscription.
Norton Management would not install from the user interface after a system restore removed it.
The solution was to find the Norton M in Public downloads folder and double click to install it.
Norton Management then updated her status in 2 steps-the first step removed the red x on her computer with the message No Product Installed to Protected but with a trial version.
Later it updated the trial version status to the number of days left in our current subscription.
You can also install the Norton M from the manage.norton.com website by clicking ADD DEVICE option in the website. You've to do this from the device that you're willing to install the Norton M.
Thanks Subash_, that is good to know. I just tried the link on the user interface because it was so convenient. I think that is the first sysem restore we have ever done on her computer and hopefully it will be the last. Everything seems to be in order now.
Thanks again very much.
Hi
Most of the applications gets confused because of the time travel done by the System Restore and stop working normally ...
Glad to hear that you had fixed the problem already....:-)
In Norton Management you can install Norton 360 2013 all from one computer hear is an example
computer one Norton 360 2013
computer two Norton 360 2013
computer three Norton 360 v6
the computer that has Norton 360 v6 have the fallowing buttons
UPDATE/ DOWNLOAD button one
INSTALL button two
RESTART button three
Then you can check and see if you put Norton 360 2013
on computer three from copter one
that way you do not have to go to computer three and hit restart
example
computer one had Norton360 2013
computer two had the update button I clicked it two or three minis later it ask for a restart I had to go restart & install it manually
computer one Norton 360 2013
computer two Norton 360 2013
computer three Norton 360 v6 UPDATE/ DOWNLOAD button one
INSTALL button two
RESTART button three
I hope this will put an end to having to go from one computer to another.
You can do it all from one with three buttons
