I recently purchased a Dell with Windows 8. I hate it. I was told that Norton is better than McAfee, so I purchased Norton and removed McAffee from my machine. I get constant notifications that PC doctor is not working. I called Microsoft support and they said that my machine has viruses and that none of the Microsoft software is running properly. They wanted $250 for a couple of years of technical support--this is a new machine, how could I have viruses already!
Question: Can I remove PC Doctor? Do I need both PC Doctor and Norton. Any insight into what's going on with mm computer?
As Yank has already mentioned to you already, Windows Defender ISNOT compatible with Norton security programs, especially with Windows 8 as WD in W8 is an anti-virus program - it's the same thing as Microsoft Security Essentials in other versions of Windows.

First, I don't think you were actually in contact with Microsoft - it sounds more like you were dealing with a third-party support company that was likely not even affiliated with Microsoft. Such outfits typically tell users that their computers are hopelessly infected and push the user to purchase an overpriced long-term contract.
Second, PC-Doctor is the sottware behind the Dell Support Center program that is probably installed on your computer. You should not uninstall it. If you are getting alerts that it is not working, you should contact Dell support (please be careful to go to the Dell website, and not a third-party that states that it supports Dell products).
