Just curious if anyone else has experienced this. This morning my Samsung S22 android phone running Norton 360 informed me that I am at risk under Security. Clicking on Security, I see the 'problem" is App Security - malware detected. Opening App Secutiry, the first item is Malware Apps. The only app listed is the American Automobile Association Auto Club. This app was installed since I have a AAA membership. And yet, I can't trust it. All I can do is delete it. What happened that has made AAA an uninstall only app?
The next section is Data harvesting apps -- complete with a list of virtually every app on my phone. We are talking about some really nefarious organizations -- Wells Fargo (my bank), the Houston Chronicle (major newspaper), Amazon, Sprint, Houston Association of Realtors, T-Mobile, U-Haul, Uber, Xfinity, etc. This is just a small sample.
What happened overnight? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello,
I am user of iPhone and I noticed today alert from norton about using facebook app in iOS.
Alert mention "m.facebook.com:443". Might this be related?
My first thought is that the 360 Android app was updated on March 5, 2024 and something in the local definitions was changed and is now causing false positive detections. Did you manually update your 360 app, or do you have app updates set to automatically download and install?
For your AAA app you can report a false positive detection. You can report false positive indications here https://submit.norton.com/?type=FP
The data harvesting detection may not be as false as we would hope. Almost every app these days tries to harvest some information. If nothing else, they want some telemetry to detect any issues that crop up with their app. You can try crosschecking the information in the Norton 360 app against permissions requested by the app in Android Settings > Apps.
