Norton not disabling windows defender

I’ve posted before about this but I was on the windows 11 insider. I am not longer on insider preview and running windows 11 23h2, the latest version. Every time there is a windows update, windows defender periodic scanning gets turned on. It takes up to three minutes for windows to realize Norton 360 is my security software. I have to manually turn off defender’s periodic scanning each time there’s an update. I don’t know how to fix this. If I use Norton remove and replace tool, does anyone think that will work? I’m about to ask for a refund and go to BitDefender., but I like Norton unlimited vpn. Any advice is appreciated

I've had the same issue today in Windows 10 (Windows Defender automatically getting turned ON for periodic scanning after every reboot).

It appeared after I installed "Microsoft PC Manager Beta".

I decided to uninstall this program, and this turned out to be the solution for me: I could permanently disable the periodic scanning of Windows Defender, and (after rebooting) I don't get notifications of interference with Norton 360 anymore.

Hello @EdMic61
Welcome to Norton Community

Microsoft PC Manager beta
[...]
How do you disable the Microsoft periodic scanning it enables? i have tried to manually open windows security to disable it and it still shows up every time i restart L0L. unticking the setting is not working.

It will only stay disabled if you uninstall PC Manager. It probably has to stay on, enabled, to allow the scan. I couldn't find a way to disable it in the PC Manager settings, either.

Also, disable "tamper protection" and then disable periodic scanning. Lets see if that makes a difference.

Hi,

Thank you for posting on the Norton Community. There is ongoing issue with Windows defender which automatically gets turned ON for periodic scanning. Until Windows Defender addresses this issue, you can try the below:

  1. Hover over "Cross Button" present in the alert notification.
  2. "Don't show me again" option will appear.
  3. Click on that option to never get the notification again.

If the issue persist, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello George. Have a look at this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/topic/what-is-smart-app-control-285ea03d-fa88-4d56-882e-6698afdb7003

Did you perform a clean install of Windows once you left the insider program on the affected machine?

Norton cannot control what features Windows updates may change settings for. The good news is that the periodic scanning is not a real time feature, so it does not cause any conflicts with Norton.

Maybe @SoulAsylum has some insight on how you might permanently disable the feature.

Sorry, no advice....just recall maybe similar report
