Hello all,
When buying Norton Internet Security I was given an option to add a free year of Norton Online Backup (5 GB). I think this is the new version announced in March. My impression is that it has an awful user-interface, especially regarding file and directory selection.
The user-interface may be tedious, but it is not the major problem. It's the performace that is so frustrating. When I view the log, I see messages like 'Backup failed (out of storage space)' which is amusing since I have so far used 5% of my 5 GB! The 'Backup now' command stalls with a 'Backup in Progress - Awaiting agent' message for hours. Eventually I cancel out and maybe if lucky find out later that backup has occurred without errors.
Support is via a patient bunch of guys in India doing their best to help, but I believe the only thing they are trained to do is make sure the software is installed correctly. At the moment I'm waiting to hear from an 'expert'. I already exhausted the efforts of an an analyst and one level higher. All they did (remotely) was uninstall and reinstall, reboot, etc. I believe they have no information about other factors which might affect performance.
Anyone had better luck? The support team says my problems are unique. Am I othe only one having difficulties? I have 3 computers: 2 on XP, and a Vista laptop. NOB behaves the same on all of them. Maybe the problem relates to my Internet provider (Comcast)? Anyone get 'Backup now' to expeditiously connect to the server?
Well, it was free. I'm hoping it all works better in a year when I'll need to pay to renew.
