Norton Online backup vs Dropbox

:smileysad:

Hi,

I'm testing this system in the cloud, and took several hours online, trying to transfer 7.6 GB, to an account with 56GB available. After 12 hours is up just 1%, (at night):smileymad:, it seems not usable, in DropBox time to update a similar size is a few hours, even updating multiple computers on the same local network.
Clearly, if this transfer method does not improve, I will not use, nor will hire this storege method:smileysad:.

Is there any way to improve this speed of response?.

I have a local network in my house, with several computers (5), which are connected to the Internet through a router, with RJ45 cable to a computer and other computers via Wifi.

Thanks for your comments,

Hello TecnicoManyo,

First off , I would like to explain a bit about the 2 you are comparing. First is drop box is not a secure transfer, 90% of the transfer with Norton is the encryption. The length of time to backup on average is 1-4 hour per gigabyte. After first backup with Norton  you are only uploading new and changed documents. This will make the following backups much faster. Every file that has not been modified in 90 days will also be uploaded to the server to keep the integrity of the file.

Hello Michael,

My complaint is the slowness. I have no doubt the encryption of the messages, but that is for?, what I ask in a backup is to know where this file and restore it.
So, for me it is better copy, without encryption, faster than one that is very safe but slowly.
In addition, as you can delete the contents of the backup, in the network, because I do not see any option, with which our data can go from one side to another Internet and can be manipulated, so that in DropBox, (in it if I can delete the data), encryption is not any obstacle to handle them, that is uploaded to the cloud You must be a little sensitive material.

I reiterate that the speed is very low, and therefore very poor program, if it is not improved to achieve greater speed and more control by the user for their data.

Andres,

Speed is always going to vary depending on where you're at in comparison to the data centers. The same thing will apply regardless to the service you're using. Also factor in overall internet connectivity, from many international locations to the US, over the last week has been degraded. That's the direct result of one of the major underwater cables being partially cut as well as multiple DDOS attacks on a couple of major spam blocking services.

If this has been an ongoing issue - it'd be helpful if you posted traceroutes to nobu.backup.com from your location if you want us to help evaluate where there may be a speed issue.

It's also important to note that the service itself is marketed specifically as a backup solution. What you reference, without the additional security layers via AES encryption and incremental history, is what Norton Zone offers. In short remote storage and a file sharing service which offers security via the browser but does not directly encrypt data.

In the end it's apples vs... oranges when you try to compare DropBox to Norton Online Backup. They're two entirely different services. Of course there will be drastic differences as a result.
