Issue abstract:
When the Norton Password Manager extension isn’t running, my Chrome browser suggests passkeys along with passwords for logging into relevant websites. However, when the Norton Password Manager extension is enabled, it only suggests passwords. Similarly for Edge.
Detailed description:
As above. Please note that I’m referring to browser based autofill suggestions.
Product & version number:
Norton Password Manager extension for Chrome 8.2.2.529
Google Chrome 133.0.6943.142
Microsoft Edge 134.0.3124.51
OS details:
Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 fully up to date
What is the error message you are seeing?
No error message, just a lack of passkeys in browser based autofill suggestions.
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
Norton Password Manager wasn’t set to be the default password manager for Chrome or Edge. When I set up Norton Password Manager, I chose Remind Me Later. According to Chrome’s password settings, it does not say anything like “This setting is managed by Norton Password Manager”.
This problem happens even before the extension is logged in for the first time. It just needs to be running.
The issue is that Google Chrome’s autofill function only suggests passwords when the Norton Password Manager extension is enabled, whereas it suggests passkeys and passwords when it is disabled or not installed. Similarly for Microsoft Edge and its autofill function.
Here are some screenshots demonstrating what Chrome’s autofill does when I click on an e-mail field on a website that supports passkeys and I have passkeys registered with it.
The reason for the difference with what you are seeing is that Norton PWM or Chrome PWM should NOT be used side-by-side. One will default over the other when used. Passkeys as Guru peterweb said are not supported in the current releases of Norton PWM therefore will not show as an option. Since using PWM will make it default it may also block your browsers built in settings from allowing usage. I sure hope that changes in the future due to the changes Google is making with device fingerprinting. Hope that helps.
