My Norton Password Manager is set up on my PC to send a request to my mobile phone to unlock and open it. It sends this request, which I approve, but Password Manager does not open on my PC. I have to wait for the PC to ask to Resend the request which, when approved, opens it up properly. This has been going on for a number of months. Why is it not working first time?
there can be a few thing try add it all agian remove the app on the phone and then the sync on the pc that can fix it and then add it all agian
Thanks for your reply. I have done this a number of times, including yesterday, and it is still the same - 1st request to mobile arrives which I approve but it does nothing, the resent request from my PC then works when approved.
Have the same problem. Did you find a solution? Any insides much appreciated.
This specific issue—where the first “Passwordless Vault Unlock” request fails but the second works—is a known problem reported by other users in the Norton community. It often stems from communication lag between the browser extension and Norton’s authentication servers or aggressive battery-saving settings on the mobile device.
Potential Causes & Solutions
- Mobile Battery Optimization: Your phone may be putting the Norton app into a “sleep” state to save power. When the first request arrives, the app might wake up just enough to show the notification but fail to complete the secure handshake with the server before timing out.
- Fix: On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Norton Password Manager > Battery and set it to Unrestricted (or disable “Adaptive Battery” for this app). On iOS, ensure Background App Refresh is enabled for the app.
- Time Synchronization: Passwordless requests rely on precise time-stamping. If your phone’s clock is even slightly out of sync with your PC or the Norton server, the first request may be rejected as “expired”.
- Fix: Ensure both your PC and mobile phone are set to Set time automatically in their respective date and time settings.
- Browser Extension Latency: Recent updates to browser extensions (specifically the move to Manifest V3) have caused some background processing delays. Some users found that having the extension try to open the vault immediately upon browser startup causes a race condition where the request fails.
- Fix: Try opening your browser first, waiting a few seconds for all extensions to load, and then manually clicking the Norton icon to trigger the unlock request.
Steps to Reset the Connection
If the above settings don’t work, a “clean” re-pairing of the devices often fixes persistent sync issues:
- On your PC: Open the browser extension, go to Settings, and Turn Off Passwordless Vault Unlock.
- On your Phone: Sign out of the Norton Password Manager app, or even uninstall and reinstall it to clear the “serial number” used for the link.
- Re-enable: Follow the Norton Setup Guide to register the device again from scratch.
