Norton Personal Firewall 2006 renewal problem

Howdy, I’ve been having some trouble renewing my subscription to Norton Personal Firewall 2006, which is scheduled to expire mid July. To some extent I seem to have brought this on myself, as I was scheduled for automatic renewal of both my Norton Systemworks 2006 and my Norton Personal Firewall 2006. But the credit card information on my account was no longer valid and in attempting to update it I accidentally cancelled my automatic renewal. I spent much fruitless time with the “Customer Support” website, initially becoming quite frustrated at its inability to grasp my desire to restore my automatic renewal, and my inability there to communicate with an actual living human being (instead of “Nathan”). I eventually figured out that I’d have to renew the subscriptions on my own, which ultimately was simple for my Norton Systemworks 2006, which will now be automatically renewed when it runs out mid July 2012. But, although my Norton Personal Firewall 2006 keeps prompting me – once or twice a day – to renew its subscription, when i go through the same process that allowed me to renew the Systemworks I go to a site at which the column to renew the subscription is blank & nonactive. Again “Nathan” can’t help me; “his” response was basically that he’s “still learning about Norton Personal Firewall.” So it’s still scheduled to expire mid July this year. So, MY QUESTION TO Y’AA ACTUAL LIVING ENTITIES is a two parter. (Oh, and I should point out that I’m still running Windows XP and Office 2007.) (1) Can someone direct me to the website page I need to get to to accomplish renewing my subscription to Norton Personal Firewall 2006 for another year, which should also restore its automatic renewal status? (2) If Norton has decided to stop supporting Norton Firewall 2006 how should I replace its protection? it seems that the newer programs would also supplant my Norton Systemworks 2006, and if so, I’d sure like a refund what I just paid to extend its subscription another year. Thanks in advance for your responses. They’ll be much appreciated.

Welcome LoneTreeDenizen.  2006 norton fire wall is no longer supported by norton.  You may have to start useing nis 2011 or norton 360  for your fire wall  as for your other norton progams you also should update as well. I do not know where you are located but in the  United States  there have been a number of retail.outlets like  Office depot and Frys  both in store and on line  that have had a bundle of nis2011 with norton utilities and norton ghost programs on sale  with a rebate for a good price . Also if you buy a retail boxed  version you avoid the problems  that have been seen when you renew  online with a credit card. but make sure you allow time to buy  the software before  the program stops working . LoneTreeDenizen- Welcome to the Community and I hope you can get your problem solved.  Have you tried using the US On-Line Chat option (you may have to scroll down a little to see the chat option), to contact Customer Support?  Unless "Nathan" has learned to type, I think you do type to a person.  Perhaps with a little communications, they can get your account set back up the way it was?  I am also using Windows XP and MS Office and I don't have any problems using NIS 2011.  Are you running any protection software?  Let us know how things work out.  Good luck..

HI LoneTreeDenizen I just checked the OFFICE DEPOT AD Norton 2011  with  utilities and  ghost  for this week on page 12 and it is on sale for $9.99 after rebates. If you are in the U.S  find  the nearest office depot and buy it there  to avoid the credit card  problems.  Remember you will have to remove the 2006 fire wall before you install the new norton  that you have bought. Hello LoneTreeDenizen

I would recommend like the others have said to purchase either Norton Internet Security 2011 or N360 version 5. Once you do purchase it, if it is in a box, we can give you the more current link to the product if you tell us which one you have purchased. Norton does have a 60 day return policy I believe it is, or it might be 30 days so that you should be able to get a refund for your System Works. That program was discontinued after the 2009 version.

You will also have to remove the 2 products you have thoroughly  before you do install NIS 2011 or N360. NIS 2011 has more flixibility in it's settings. N360 is more for those who don't want to have to set up many settings and it also does include some back up space depending if you get the standard or the premier. We can also give you instructions on how to remove these old products.

You can purchase the products directly from the Norton estore, but you can most likely find a better price in a local store or a legitimate online site.

If you have any further questions, please come back and ask away. Thanks.
