So today I ran NPE and it found a small list of folders/files I've been trying to delete, once it was done scanning it asked me to select which files to remove and i selected them but after the pc restarted it gave me an error. At the the time the first error came up after restart i did not write down the error code. I tried to run NPE again but once I pressed the scan button an error code:0x8004100b,n44,n66 pops up and it says unspecified error. NPE is the only app I have that could find the bad folders and files Ive been searching for, the only thing holding me back is NPE keeps popping up errors and failing to work. I already did a fresh install of norton and I even tried the stand-alone NPE app, but I am still having the same issue. I know NPE is a last resort tool and this is my last resort before a fresh windows install. I would rather not have to format and reinstall windows 10 hope someone can help and thanks in advance!!
Thanks Matt. Your laptop is NOT wimboot enabled. Run the Malwarebytes scan and see what it determines. IF that doesn't take care of your issue, you can get into system settings, do a system restore to a date prior to when you first saw these beginning to appear. Let us know how things worked out.
Could you please share your maker and model of your computer? I would like to verify some things to make sure. This error usually indicates a wimboot so I'd like to validate for you.
The only other possible anitvirus on my computer is 'Windows Defender Security Center' which I believe is a default windows program. I also checked and do not believe that my computer "wimboot" enabled.
Matt do you have ANY other antiviral software installed on the system? Are you using an ISP version of Norton? Is your computer "wimboot" enabled? Here is what that term means. In simple terms, is your computer a device with a small EEMC flash drive vice a normal SSD or regular hard drive? If so companies use WIM to save space. NPE won't be able to scan those types of storage. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v110082286_EndUserProfile_en_us
You may want to download and run Malwarebytes instead.
