Norton Power Eraser Won't Open

I downloaded NPE, but when I try to open the .exe file, I receive this message:  A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Welcome,

What is your OS and the security product you have installed, version too?

It is possible that the files was corrupted in transit. Try downloading from here:

If the error persists I'd check over your hardware closely. Make sure all of the cables are tight and your device manager isn't showing red or yellow flags for any devices.

If all of that fails please post back and we see what else might cause the problem

Thanks

Dick,

Thanks for your answer.  I have Vista and Norton 360 Premier.   I did re-download from your  link, but I got the same message.  I went to Device Manager and nothing seems to be a problem there.  What device could possibly interfere with the PE setup?  I'll check everything, but I'm curious as to what the connection could be.

Hi,

One of the first things that NPE checks is the Internet connection. From the sounds of things you have gotten a 'nasty' that doesn't want NPE to find it. Two thoughts, first try NPE from the safe mode and two download, install, update and run from the desktop Malwarebytes free scanner.

It's Norton compatible so keep it around and run it from time to time. A second opinion on system health is never a bad thing :smileywink:

Hope this helps
