Norton Private Browser Setting Itself As Default

I wanted to switch my default web browser from Norton Private Browser (Version 126.0.25735.183) to Google Chrome (Version 127.0.6533.73) for a couple days. In the computer's settings (Windows 11 Home), I changed the default browser to Google Chrome and ensured everything was switched over but after a few minutes, the default browser had switched back to Norton Private Browser. I would rather not uninstall Norton Private Browser but it will not stop taking over. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Edit: just reminded myself

Are you in Windows Admin user account?

as test: installed Private Browser...again

Norton Browser Core is listed with Startup Apps

W10

Do you have CCleaner installed?

Private Browser is listed with Startup > Windows > Norton Browser
Private Browser is listed with Startup > Schedules Tasks > NortonUpdateTaskUser

COLLEENP:

There is not any Norton stuff in the Startup Apps or Start Menu.
I do not know why you mean by file type and protocol associations.
I changed all file types and link types to Google Chrome and they all change back in a few minutes.

When I had Private Browser installed on W10...for testing.  Private Browser stuff was with Startup Apps.
Did you include machine Restart (not Shut down) after changing file type associations?

Please include machine Restart (not Shut down) after Private Browser - Settings change?

Can you open Private Browser - Settings - On Startup? - secure://settings/onStartup & disable Launch Private Browser automatically when your computer starts
Can you open Private Browser - Settings - Reset settings - secure://settings/reset & Restore settings to default

What's your PB version - v126.0.25735.183 (at this time)

If no joy.  Why not uninstall Private Browser.  You can always reinstall PB.
Besides, it sounds like something is corrupt with your PB install.
I'm thinking PB on W11 is like PB on W10.

Please post progress.

When I made these changes...

Norton Browser Core with Startup Apps = disable
Norton Private Browser with Startup Apps = disable
Norton Private Browser with Start menu = unPin
File type and protocol associations = change
=> machine Restart (not Shut down)

Private Browser rendered...

secure://settings/defaultBrowser
