Norton product installation issue

I was having the norton internet security in my laptop which is going to expire tomorrow. Now I have decided not to renew that product and instead I want to buy the norton antivirus which is cheaper than that.

My question is that whether i will have to remove the old product completely from my laptop before buying the new one or the new product will automatically get installed removing the old one by itself? Please suggest me the best way to deal with it.

Hi dhirajdeka100,

When installing a Norton product, part of the installation process removes any previous products.

However, since you are switching from NIS to NAV, I would suggest the following:

    • Download and Save the Norton Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • For temporary protection, turn on your Windows Firewall.
    • If you used Identity Safe, Export / Backup you Identity Safe Data to a convenient location and Export it to a CSV file which is readable outside of Norton.
    • Uninstall your current Norton product via Add-Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
    • If prompted, do not select the option to save your settings.  Select "Please remove all user data...." (see image here)
    • Restart your computer when prompted.
    • After the restart, run the Norton Removal Tool.
    • Restart your computer when prompted
    • Install NAV.

Hope that helps!

Hi9 dhirajdeka100,

In addtion to what Phil_D said, log into Norton Managment, go to the Home Tab and on the righthand side click on Automatic Renewal Settings and ensure you have auto renewal turned off so you do onot get charged for a renewal.  Since it shows as expiring tomorrow and you haven't been getting any prompts, it should be off - but it is still best to check to make sure you are not charged for the renewal you do not desire.

Thanx guys for your kind suggestions. It has worked well.

I am glad all worked out well for you, dhirajdeka100.

Please feel free to stop back here if you any other questions or observations.
