Norton Products

I recently left BT who had provided McAfee security software. I then purchased Norton 360 Standard.

When I ran a scan, I was advised that there were a host (62,565) of ‘performance issues’ which would be making my PC run well under its maximum performance level and to address these issues I would have to purchase more software from Norton. In this case it would be Norton Utilities Ultimate software.

I felt a bit aggrieved. I felt that Norton had misled me by their omission of the various elements that I would require to make my PC work better. I did not buy Norton Utilities Ultimate software.

However, having carried out regular scans over a several months, and each time being presented with the summary report which showed that my PC’s performance was sub-standard and needed the Norton Utilities Ultimate software to make life wonderful, I decided to purchase it.

I had progressed as far as the payment screen, when I was presented with a screen telling me that I would need another piece of software, Norton Driver Updater, to, presumably, keep my drivers up to date.

As I feel there is a difference between kneeling down and bending over, I abandoned my purchase of the Norton Utilities Ultimate software.

What I want to know is:-

What good is what I have?

When do I have all the bits to make life good like it was with McAfee?

When does it stop?

Another small but irritating point, as part of the Norton 360 scan service, there is an Auto Update option, see below.

However, it is not clear to me whether it is ‘off’ or ‘on’. Can anybody help please?

You can say caveat emptor, but hey I am 73, I have been using software since Supercalc, Lotus 123 and Foxbase in the early eighties, but it seems now that these selling methods are structured to obfuscate the truth and confuse the customer.
