I recieved a refurbished Blackberry Curve for X-Mas this year. After installing the software for the phone onto my Vista 64-bit OS and plugged in the phone via USB 2.0. Upon doing so, four I.E. windows opened each containing as many tabs as they could within each of those four windows.
After finding I could not close those windows, I immediately Ctrl + Alt + Delete'd to open the task manager, which read 95 percent of my CPU and all of my RAM were in use. Each I.E. window was using about as much CPU as it takes Left for Dead to run one window.
My computer would not allow me to shut down, so I had to hold down the power key. Upon restarting everything appeared to be back to normal.
Here are my questions:
*Could I scan the Blackberry with NIS 2009 and successfully determine if it is carrying a virus from the previous owner?
*Do I put my computer at risk by plugging the Blackberry or an external device into it even with NIS 2009, or does NIS 2009 block attacks from external devices?
*Should I try connecting this device again?
*Could it have been from the Blackberry software installation?
