Issue abstract: Norton Protection Report showing it protected 28 networks

Detailed description: My latest Norton Protection Report claims it protected the 28 networks I was connected to. The report has previously only said it protected 1 connection, so does anyone know what these additional 27 networks are that Norton claims I am suddenly connected to. I don’t know if this is connected to an odd thing that happened recently. I’ve always had my Network Connection set to “Public” for extra protection. But a few days ago I noticed it had been changed to “Private” - I emphasise I did not do this! I switched it back to public, but for a couple of days it kept switching back to private. It now seems to be staying on “Public”. Would the “Private” setting have opened up networks that would explain this extraordinary figure of 28 networks? Could my system have been compromised somehow (their is nothing in Norton’s History records to suggest this). I’m also wondering if this has anything to do with the various bugs that seem to have afflicted Norton since the recent update.

I have 14 Networks Protected
Do you run Norton VPN?
Do you restart your machine?

Maybe, 28 represents 28 machine starts - Connected to network

That may be so, but I don’t know what your set up is. I’ve only previously had one network, so why has it suddenly gone from 1 to 28? I do use a VPN occasionally, but that has never registered with Norton as an extra network and I certainly didn’t use the VPN 27 times or use 27 different VPNs.

Again, I do restart my machine, but that has never previously appeared as a separate network in my Norton report.

v24 sees VPN as Connected to … apart from your home network
Maybe, like you say…switching Public Private adds a count.

Protection Report IMO is marketing.

Difficult to say because v24 only installed on the 31/10. I agree protection report is marketing, but then it does contain data that I can’t ignore. I think your suggestion that Norton might have been counting each switch from public to private as a new network is possible. I tried counting the number of times it switched - difficult to be precise because of the need to scroll, but I counted into the 30s, so given the Protection Report may not have included them all it’s possible. Has anyone else had a similar experience - both with the number of protected connections suddenly going up and with the “Public” changing to “Private” autonomously? I’ve seen complaints about it suddenly switching from “Private” to “Public”, but not the other way around. Thanks as always for the help and advice - I appreciate it.
