I have been having problems with NIS 2010. I would like to uninstall it, so I downloaded Norton Removal Tool. I ran it but it asks me to remove:
Symantec WinFax Pro
This program does not show on the Add/Remove Program list. How the h*ll am I supposed to uninstall a program that does not exist anywhere on my computer. I searched for it and no results. I tried variations of my search information. For example, Symantec WinFax Pro or WinFax Pro or Symantec.
Also, I see on my History that my LAN has changed to WAN and not by my doing either. I do not know how to change internet connection from a LAN to a WAN. I am beginning to hate this product even more.
The Norton Removal tool is only for when normal uninstalls, via add/remove programs, does not work or fails. Sounds like you did not download the correct Norton Removal tool. This is the correct one. You download the inncorrect removal tool. Care to elaborate on the problems you are experiencing?
I downloaded, it seems, varying sizes of Norton Removal Tool from www.symantec.com and the last one that I downloaded was the same one which your link brought me to on www.symantec.com.
I forgot to put on my list of Norton security software:
Norton Safety Minder 1.2.2.2
There are a myriad of problems I am experiencing:
1) The major one being that Download Insight no longer works on Windows Updates since 05/26/2010 and since that
date it has not worked until today.
2) Windows Updates:
I have noticed that not all updates are showing up in the list of programs in Add/Remove Programs.
For example, on 05/26/2010, four updates were downloaded and installed and there are zero updates on the Add/Remove Programs list. On 06/12/2010, 10 updates were downloaded and installed and only six shows as installed on the Add/Remove Program list. Mind you, I don't have MS Office products on my computer anymore. On 06/15/2010, three updates were downloaded and installed and only two were installed. I haven't had a chance to check what the updates were today.
Also, the yellow shied icon that MS uses to display in the Task Bar when downloading MS updates does not allow me to click on it anymore to see what it is downloading since 05/26/2010.
3) When I look at my History, it now shows remote ports on FF browser activities when I have remote or any kind of sharing
on my computer turned off or disabled.
4) My internet was set up as a LAN wired internet connection using Intel. Now it shows as being WAN connected.
I do not have wireless connection. I have a wired connection.
I do not know how to set up the internet. My ISP set it up for me. They used the Wired connection wizard.
How do I change this back to a wired connection?
5) And I just checked my Firewall - Network and Connections and it now displays no information. It is blank.
On this part of the History,it used to show that my computer is 'connected to a protected network' and what type of adapter I have. Now? No information at all!
6) What are the steps I need to follow when Uninstalling NIS 2010 and Norton Safety Minder?
Do I need to disconnect from the Internet? What other steps do I need to do when using Norton Removal Tool?
I think this is all for now! Getting really sick of NIS! Thanks so much!
Thanks for the link. It brought me to the same link Dieslman326 provided to me earlier. I downloaded from your link and Norton's File Insight indicates that this is the 2nd version of Diesalman326's link that I downloaded. See my JPEG below:
Your image says that you have 2 files that were downloaded with the same name; Windows will not save the same file name twice in the same directory so it added a "(2)" to the name.
I know Windows renames files of the same name by adding a number in brackets.
The following images are screenshots I took before and after attempting to use this removal tool:
Before using NRT 2011.0.0.15:
After using NRT 2011.0.015:
FYI, I closed the Windows Task Manager dialog box before hitting the Next button on the Welcome to the Norton Removal Tool dialog box as well as after hitting the Next button on the Welcome to the Norton Removal Tool dialog box.
So it seems it does not matter how man bloody times I download this #@%$ tool, the end result is the second image!
Have you tried the manual uninstall ? Did it work ? As said in the previous post, NRT should be used only when a manual uninstall from Add\remove program fails. Is your product broken and does the normal uninstall fail ?
Some OEM versions of Norton products may require a special tool to remove them (something other than the normal Add/Remove routine and the standard Norton Removal Tool). Barring that, the NRT should remove any newer Norton product listed on the download page. As I understand it, the Comcast offered Security Suite is based on the current N360 program; the NRT should work just fine for that.
