Norton Removal Tool - NIS 2010 vs Norton Utilities

I have both NIS 2010 and Norton Utilities (NU) 14 installed on my PC.  Am I correct in assuming that the Norton Removal Tool will uninstall both NIS and NU?

The information on Norton Removal Tool's download page does not specifically mention NU, but it does say that the tool wil uninstall Norton SystemWorks 12.  SystemWorks 12 is no longer available for purchase and has since been replaced by NU.

I wanted to a complete uninstall of NIS 2010 before I upgrade to NIS 2011 but I don't want to run the Norton Removal Tool if it's going to corrupt my NU installation.

Hi Imacri

There isn't any need to use the Norton Removal Tool if you are upgrading from NIS2010 to 2011. You can either uninstall 2010 using add/remove and then install 2011 or just install 2011 over the top of 2010. The NRT only needs to be used for uninstallation problems.

Hello imacri

In addition to what mdturner said, if you are having any problems with your current NIS 2010, then I would recommend a complete uninstall of NIS so that the possibility of any problems won't carry over. Thanks.

I've had problems in the past when upgrading NIS over an old installation and would prefer to do a fresh installation of NIS 2011.  Past experience has taught me that uninstalling NIS from the Control Panel leaves behind all sorts of old files/registry entries.

Hi Imacri

NIS2011 is much improved and you should not have any issues doing either an "over the top" installation (what most people do) or an add/remove of 2010 followed by a 2011 installation.

Does anyone know the answer to my original question - namely, will the Norton Removal Tool uninstall Norton Utilities?

Imacri Hi,  :smileyhappy:

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but I would like to add that the Beta programs must be completely removed but updating to NIS 2011 does not usually require removal of NIS 2010, as it is now a very simple and smooth operation. but you may prefer to do this.

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I will answer you.

Cheers,

drshlomo.
