Norton safe web not working correctly

Everything in google search works for me. I get all the icons and can visit the safe web site. Im on IE7 VISTA

Greatnate, this problem is very specific:

Firefox (not IE) and www.google.com.

Well I thought I had a workaround.

Can anyone confirm that if you use the default home page for google in firefo

http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

that while the safe web marks work, query suggestions dont work.

Summary,

www.google.com, query suggestions work, safe web marks dont work.

http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official   query suggestions dont work,  safe web marks work

Seems like this stuff is getting less reliable by the minute

Same for me.  I am using Vista Ultimate and Norton 360.  Safe Web seems to work fine in IE8 (Live, Google, Yahoo).

Safe Web does not work from www.google.com but seems to work from the FF309 start page.  Works with FF using yahoo and Live, but not Google.

I'm seeing the same behavior with AVG Link Scanner which places an icon at the end of google search entries - not working from www.google.com but working just fine from google search on the mozilla firefox start page.  Everything works normally in IE though, so it's not clear what's going on.  It's not a problem with Norton Safe Web or AVG Link Scanner though.  By the way, this is in Vista with Firefox 3.09 and IE 8.

I also tested it with my laptop using McAfee site advisor.  Exact same result as safe web.

it also works if you use  the search box in the upper right corner or Firefox.

Did Firefox maybe release a automatic update that interfered with all these programs?

Hi - I am using F309 on 64bits Vista Premium

Since couple of days my safe web is not working with FF309 only for google though. Its working fine with "Yahoo" "MSN" etc.

Its working with google if I use IE8.

Can someone please help me (I checked my add ons and I do have N tool bar 3.5 and IPS 1.0 installed)

Please help

Thanks-

Jaytank, if you read the thread Norton has aknowledged here that there is now an issue with safe web, firefox, and www.google.com.   Apparently its due to a change that was recently made to google.

tfishman-

Thanks for the response. I read that and started using the default page (that works fine)

I hope they resolve this issue soon

Thanks once again

Jaytank,

I dont know if you noticed my earlier post but the problem with the defualt page is that query suggestions dont work:smileysad:   At least they dont for me.  I'm assuming that is probably the case for everyone although I dont remember anyone confirming?

Seems like the only way to use firefox, Norton, and google  and have everything work is to keep on using www.google.com and use the google search window to the right of the url  entry at the top of the page instead of the one on the google search page as someone else suggested earlier in the thread.

And this suggestion only works on the third full moon in july after a total eclipse of the sun if it happens to be on a Tuesday:smileywink:

tfishman

Yep I read about it and using the default page since.

Thanks

Another confusing difference to add to the mix is that if I type in google.comI have the same issue as you folks.  But since my home page is google.ca for Canada, there is no problem.  Everything works.  I can also type in google.ca and it works just as well.  As per previous post I'm on FF 3.08.  Xp3.

Wonder if it is just a Google.com issue.

Google has been know to change ‘behind the scene’ apparatus based on what color bird flew past the window last (or so it seems).

XP3, FF3.10  and NoScript even "with Scripts globally allowed"

I'm seeing the same problem whether I use the FF Start Page, google.com or Google via the search box from the toolbar!

No Norton icons for the search results, but XPL LinkScanner (Pre-AVG) and  Finjan show up just fine.

Strangely, though, Norton's ratings show up ONLY on the sponsored links and ads at the top and on the right side. This includes the plain Norton green circle with a checkmark, the one with the shopping cart, and a gray question mark.

These are the only links where XPL's rating icon does NOT appear; it's replaced by Norton's, although Finjan shows in front of all links.

I stopped using SiteAdvisor after finding their ratings are ages old & not being maintained, even if McAfee is contacted about errors.

Interestingly, after disablig NoScript entirely (from the Addons options), my in-page ad-blocking  sems to be working, so now I'm not getting those sponsored search results and now Norton Safe Web isn't showing ANY icons ANYWHERE!.

I'm using NIS and Vista ultimate and here is the only two things that will allow me to use both the Norton icons and google search suggestion at the same time:

FF3.0.10 with Noscripts (global allowed or not) and the google search box on the upper URL bar  or

IE7, or IE8.

For convenince I am using IE8 more lately even though I prefer FF.  I find searcing in the upper search window to the right of the URL rather awkward. The FF google homepage does not seem to support google search suggestions.

That's too bad. I hate being forced back to IE for these annoying extension issues! I never had a problem withgoogle search suggestions from the FF start page before, but I might have noticed that it's broken since 3.x also.

Please remove the accepted solution flag.  This problem has persisted and the thread is misleading.

Well actually I think that was something separate that was causing a similar problem.   The are now two things that have been identified that are causing the safe web icons not to work:

  1. The safe web site being down
  2. A compatibility issue between firefox, google, and Norton.   Norton has posted here that the problem with #2 rests with google.

The first problem appears to have been corrected.  I havent seen the safe web site go done lately.     The second problem has definitely not been corrected and continues to be a PITA.  I not really familiar enough with this web site's etiquette to know if we really ought to form a new thread to just deal with cause #2 and let cause #1 be solved for now? Maybe a Norton person can resolve that for us?

Nope, the google search suggestions are working fine, at least after I completely disabled NoScript. I wish these other extension providers, including Norton Web Safe, would investigate NoScript and offer tips on now NoScript needs to be configured to get out of the way of their particular product, without globally disarming NoScript.

When I disabled NoScript, I found that Globally Allow Scripts was still blocking my Ad Blocker and YouTube kept telling me that I either had an old version of Flash (not) or I had javascript turned off (not), so NoScript must have been interfering there, even with the Globally Allow Scripts setting. I may have to delve into the NoScript documentation to see what all of the OTHER options control.

Nevertheless, Norton Safe Web is still broken in FF 3.10 even without NoScript enabled. Presumeably, it does't require that I completely remove NoScript.
