I have been using Norton internet security for about 5 years and safety minder since it was introduced a couple years ago. It has worked pretty well up to now. A few months ago I started experiencing intermittent internet connection on the two main computers in my home which are both connected via lan cable to the modem/router. Both are running Windows 7 pro 64-bit. This got progressively worse. I twice had a Verizon tech in to look at the problem. No luck. It got to the point to where I could only connect to web pages about 10% of the time on one computer and maybe 50% of the time on the other, always taking a long time to load web pages. I then decided to switch to cable internet through Comcast. Low and behold, it was doing the same thing! I then did some research to try and diagnose the problem. First I booted into safe mode and the internet was working fine. I then performed what is called a 'clean boot' which only loads Microsoft software, no 3rd party software at all, or so I thought. The internet still wasn't working. I glanced in the system tray and the only two things there were NIS and Safety minder. I had previously disabled NIS in the past and I knew it wasn't causing the problem. THE MOMENT I DISABLED SAFETY MINDER THE INTERNET WORKED PERFECTLY!! The hours and hours of aggravation trying to figure this out and that's all it was. I was ready to reformat both hard drives before I tried that. Thank God I didn't. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them and if there is a resolution besides using different parental control software? Safety Minder version 2.3.0.26
