My father recently installed Norton Safety Minder, and it's been emailing him that it's being disabled, and he thinks I'm installing some hacking program to bypass it, or something. Then he takes away the computer, as he always does, but I'm not doing anything to bypass it! It's most-likely impossible to bypass this program, so what's wrong with it?
Hi Roxas1432,
Do you know when he normally receives message that tells him Norton Safety Minder has been disabled, right after rebooting the PC? Is the Norton Safety Minder(NSM) active on the PC (Is the NSM icon, a dog paw active in the system tray, without a red X on it and not grayed out)?
Thanks,
Katie
He doesn't tell me when exactly, but he checked his E-mail yesterday and said it happened the 26th.
On which day I wasn't really even on the computer.
Edit: I thought you were talking about his system tray.
On mine, it's normally colored, not gray, no red X.
Roxas1432,
I appreciate you sending us the message. Is it possible that your father could answer the questions I have in the previous post. If he prefers to send email to me, you can find my email address under my profile in the forum.
What Operating System is running on your machine?
Thanks,
Katie
Are you using a newer version of Firefox? If so, that's why he's getting the messages. Norton's addon isn't compatible with newer versions of Firefox (they can't keep up) so it gets disabled when you go online (still blocks and logs everything) and an email gets sent to your parent. I had the same issue with my step-daughter and we thought she had found a way to hack until I came on the forum and found the above explanation. It's very frustrating. My suggestion is to get your Dad to come to the forum and show him some of the threads about this where they explain this issue (you'll probably have to search for it). It's annoying that we pay for this service and it doesn't quite work as it should, but anyway.
I am getting this message too. I get it right after my kids log on. They are not doing anything to do this on their end. We just got a new computer and it has happened ever since we installed it. It worked fine on the old one.
NSM is running, but not working properly. It still reports time restrictions and blocked websites, but it does not report all web activity at all, And just today it is allowing them to log on to websites that I have listed as blocked. This is getting very frustrating. I hope someone has a solution.
Hi sajsan,
Please check my post for your same question in another thread at
Thanks,
