First, I would suggest setting a password on the share. NSR and Ghost are based off Backup Exec System Restore (BESR) which is the corporate version of the product. What BESR does, NSR and Ghost have to follow along. If I remember right, a change occurred in the time frame between NSR 1 and NSR 2 in BESR that had made it so that a password was required for all shares. This was done as a security enhancement. It is also a practice that I would recommend on any share for a variety of reasons that I won't go into here. As a result NSR 2 picked up that change. So, for it to access the share it needs to be able to use a password.
This should not affect the machine running NSR 1 save for the fact that you will need to edit the backup job to include a password.
As for your laptop, I'm curious what the share type is showing up as if it is not an SMB share. But on the OneCare ability to connect, I can't speak to May I suggest you try our latest version, Norton Ghost 14?
