While looking for something else, today I came across this website that claims to test and publish the results of the protection given by a large variety of security programs. As you will see, the results seem to turn things as we know them on their head: well known and respected software like Norton (9%), Bitdefender (19%), and avast! (8%) come out with dismal scores, whereas unknown or less-well regarded programs such as Comodo (97%) and Outpost Security (90%) get high marks.
Does anybody have specific information about the reliability/trustworthiness of this website or their tests? Are they using special testing tricks to make selected programs look better/worse? Count me as skeptical, but I'm open to a reasoned explanation.
I dunno, seems to me if these tests were accurate, my computers (N360, NIS) would be completely unusable and infested with malware by now. In addition to the resident Norton product on each PC, I run regular scans with a half-dozen different on-demand, online, and even live CD security suites, and yet they invariably come out clean.
Especially welcome would be input from a Symantec specialist with knowledge of this situation, or indeed anybody else who knows what's going on there.
