Norton Security Freezes during scans

I need help.  Since Norton updated I haven't been able to successfully run a scan.  It doesn't matter which scan I choose, it freezes up on me about half way through.  I've deleted Norton and re-installed.  I even sat not so patiently for customer service and when I finally got someone all they did was delete and reinstall again.  They problem is still there.  Can anyone help me?
