Norton Security Suite settings greyed out

When I click Settings in the homescreen in NSS, all the categories (except Identity Protection) are greyed out, and cannot be accessed. Is this normal, or is there an issue with my installation? I am running Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks

This is what you should be seeing.  Silent Mode should be grayed out.  Are you saying that the Detailed Settings are grayed out, or the Quick Controls are grayed out (like Silent Mode is)?

The Detailed Settings (except Identity Protecttion) are greyed out. BTW Silent Mode is not greyed out.

What is displayed on the main page?  Does it show a green Protected in the upper left corner?

How long have you had NSS installed?  Is it a recent install?  Which security program were you running prior to installing NSS?

Sorry for all the questions, but it appears a remove and reinstall is appropriate and the more we know about your past security posture will aide us in determining what cleanup needs to be done prior to reinstalling NSS.

<edit> Something else you can try:

From Main Page, click on Help  & Support > Get Support (permit it to update) and then click on Begin Support Session.  Permit AutoFix to run to completion.  It may or may not find/correct some items.  If it comes back clean, you can always click on CONTINUE and see if anything in Step-by-Step Assistance helps.

I just clean installed Win 7, then NSS, two weeks ago. Never had another a/v. It shows Protected.

I am wondering if the Comcast NSS is just a crippled version, settings are not accessible. What I want to do is turn off background scans, I want it to scan when I tell it to. Is that possible with Comcast NSS?

Thanks for the info - I'll wait and see if you caught my edit, since I just did it prior to your last post.

Just had another thought - are you logged on as an administrator?  If not, log on as an admin and see if the settings are not grayed out.

CNSS is not a crippled version - it does have some flexibility.  I believe you have used NIS in the past and CNSS is not quite as flexible as that program - however there have been some work arounds figured out here.  CNSS, just like Norton 360, is more or less a "set it and forget it" type program.  That said there is a way to schedule scans thru the Windows Task Scheduler.  There are some Idle scans  that can not be turned off, as they are tied to definition updates.

We can answer your other questions in depth once we get CNSS working properly with all the options available to you.

I have to put this issue on hold for a bit, have a more pressing matter to deal with regarding Ghost.

Hello Vincenzo

Do you hsve any other real time security programs installed? Is your Win 7 32 bit or 64 bit? What browser did you use to download and install CNNS? Is it fully updated? It sounds to me that you may have had a bad download of it or else something is blocking it. Since you just installed Win 7, did you get all the windows updates before you tried installing CNSS?

No, I am a standard user.  That was the problem, logged into admin acct, got it going now.
