Norton Security Suite Won't Start

Problem:

My Norton Security Suite Wont' Start on Startup nor when clicking on the Norton Secuirty Suite Icon. When I go to the windows action center and click on "Do you want to run this program?" -> WSCStub.exe -> Yes, I trust the publisher... but nothing happens also.

History:

I use to have Norton 360, but I started getting the recent problem of not being able to start Norton 360 automatically on start up, by clicking the Norton 360 icon nor from the windows action center, I decided to uninstall this since my subscription is up.

I then install the Norton Security Suite provided by Comcast but ran into the same problem described above.

What Have I tried and it still didn't work.

1. Uninstall and Reinstall Norton Security Suite -> probably 5-10 times.

2. turn off windows firewall

3. run regsvr32 /u WMIUTILS.DLL; reboot; run regsvr32 WMIUTILS.DLL and then reboot again.

3a. have not tried the 64bit version - will this help?

Not sure what else to do... any help is appreciated.

What system do I have:

Windows 7 Professional 64bit  - service pack 1

Lenovo x220 - 6G Mem

Do I have any other anti virus software? No

Other Firewall - Windows Firewall - that I turned off to see if NSS starts.

Hi hlim,

Thanks for the info on your system, please see this post on the Comcast Forums

as well this post on the Norton forums

As you have a Lenovo system also, I would suggest you check for the Rapid Boot program being installed and perhaps follow my suggestion in the other post I referenced here on Norton Forums.

Please post back with info on Rapid Boot being installed or not.

hi Yank,

this fixed it, I removed rapidboot 1.11 from lenovo and NSS worked.

I re-installed rapidboot 1.12 from lenovo just released few days ago, rebooted, rerun live update, rebooted and NSS still worked.

we'll see in a couple of days as NSS does it's auto live update we'll see if this will choke again or not.

I'll keep you posted in a couple of days and will let you know if the solution is permanent.

thanks for the help.

regards.
