Norton shutting itself down

On my end? Does that just apply to me or others in this thread? If so where does that leave me?

Indeed werfault is Windows error reporting, and ntdll is also a core Windows file. Exception code: 0xc0000374 also suggests kernal mode"heap corruption" aka memory leak. That would be the reference to the core file ntdll as I am also seeing. My machine doesn't show any calls by Windows Heath Management where it is reparing Windows file corruption. My machine doesn't show any references in the event viewer where Norton is calling werfault via ntdll, although others milage will vary depending their hardware, drivers and Windows installation versions. Norton error reporting is flagging it as on your end.

Update: It seems that every error entry in event viewer for this Norton crash coincides with entries in Norton's history.

WERFAULT.EXE is trying to gain access and when Norton denies it, that cause it to crash is what I'm speculating.

Nevermind I didn't realize that exe is just the error reporting app.

Long time user, never had an issue like this in over 15 years. New Windows 10 install and started having these crashes since the 20th.

This was on my desktop, but I also have 3 laptops in the house running Norton. The laptops do not seem to have the issue. The connection may be that my desktop is the most up to date and the most 'tweaked' system in terms of how many Windows settings, etc I have configured/adjusted.

When looking at the most recent entry in the event viewer and then looking in Norton history for an entry with the same time stamp, I find 2. Both entries are the same and are listed as unauthorized access blocked. The actor is a windows file called: WERFAULT.EXE

Here are the data regarding just two out of the five latest crashes...

I am encountering the exact same problem as everyone else. Would greatly appreciate to stay in the loop.

Thanks Gayathri. The ntdll issue, which is a Windows core file, making failed load call to nortonsecurity.exe,  has been a culprit as was noted in my other thread. Just a small note that my boot time has increased 5 fold on my personal laptop as of this morning. The laptop remainded shut down the entire day yesterday. My other devices aren't affected. No hardware issues or diver issues are being logged in the event viewer to add to the frey of data. I will have another look at the event logs to see if there may be something there I have missed.

Hi,

We are sorry about the issue you're facing. Logs could help us investigate this issue better. Could you please attach logs to this thread? I've sent each of you private messages with the steps. Please take a look at your inbox when you get a chance. Thanks.

I'm curious, is anyone else running Citrix?

Great to know I'm not the only one surviving this instability madness!

Come on Norton, if anyone can fix this APPCRASH bug, it's YOU!  Please prioritize your fix!!

Getting really annoyed with this now.

I've uninstalled the product and reinstalled, following all steps previously advised, and Norton 360 has crashed within 15 minutes of reinstallation.

Clearly there's an issue with the most recent product update, and perhaps the installation of that is not actually the issue but the problem lies with the update itself.

As I posted in a previous post, I believe a faulty installer is the common culprit with most of the issues being seen with the new version. Only one of my machines has had issues with the new version, my personal laptop. Maybe something hardware/driver related is specific? The Norton team has MATS tool data files from myself and a few others they are dissecting for a cause. To date I cannot find anything in any of my systems event logs indicating anything is amiss. There ARE tons of Norton error reports related to the "comm" and "ntdll' modules. Hoping for an answer from the team about next steps for everyone. My solution as also posted in the post earlier. User liamb posted they tried the solution without any positive results. Your mileage may vary should you also give it a go.

I would also like to +1 this on it happening right after the recent live update.

Thanks for the feedback. I will have a look into the system event viewer later today to see if there are any log entried related to Norton or kernel issues. I haven't see the random disappearance of the Norton icon, then a screen refresh as if it is restarting the explorer.exe process as it does when product NGC updates are applied. If I find anything I will post back with screenshots of those result for everyone to compare.

@SoulAsylum I did try this, issue came back straight away.

Exactly the same for me, also:

Windows 10 info:

Version: 21H1
OS build: 19043.1110

Norton 360 info:

Version: 22.21.6.51

FWIW!! Has anyone attempted the "remove only" suggestion in my previous post? https://community.norton.com/en/comment/8508664#comment-8508664

Earlier around July 18th, late in that week I had a cascading feature and logging failure with my Norton install. Extensively documented in the thread below. Removal ONLY and allowing Windows Defender to take control of the system, a reboot then reinstallation of my Norton product, getting the new version patches solved my issue.

Already fourth day after this major issue pop up and still no respond from Norton team, they not even blocked 22.21.6.51 version from futher distribution to new users.

What Norton's team doing right now? They all went on summer vacation? What you guys think?
